Icebreaker: What is the most valuable thing you have ever lost? What did you do to try and find the lost item? Overview: When our daughter was three, she became lost in a shopping mall. It was a terrifying half-hour as every available person searched the crowded mall for the little girl in green. Finally, the word came over the walkie-talkie that she had been found by a customer at the other end of the mall. We were so grateful to see her again that we did not scold her for running away from the family. Our loving Heavenly Father is waiting with welcoming arms to receive the lost sheep that has wandered away. May we be like that heaven-sent customer years ago and help the lost find their way home. Icebreaker: What would you do if you had a whole day to yourself? How passionate are you about your career/work? Overview: Read Luke 9:57-62. We live in a society that values work. Sometimes to the detriment of the worker’s health or family relationships. A recent article said we shouldn’t have a passion for our WORK because it leads us to put too much value in our job. Interesting. What if instead we had a passion to do something for others (including our family)? Instead of checking our phones for work emails, what if we spend our non-working hours serving God with the same passion? In his book, Do Something! Make Your Life Count , Miles McPherson says, “When the going gets tough, it is your passion that keeps you going. Your passion is what pushes you through the unknown, the difficult times. If someone tells passion to stop fighting, passion says no. Without the passion to do something, you will never complete your God-given mission.” Discussion: What is pas...
