SAFE HOUSE: Establishing God's Authority

The following questions are to be used as a study aid for the sermon preached at the Grace Place on Sunday, May 5, 2013, by Pastor Tommy Dove. To get the most from these questions, go to www.graceplaceonline.us and listen to the sermon first.

These questions can be used in your private Bible study during the week or as a basis for a small group study. For more information on hosting or leading a small group study, click on "GP Small Groups" under "GP Ministries" at www.graceplace.us.

Fellowship: (Break bread with your community, share life from last week, announcements for next week)

Icebreaker: (Get to know your fellow believers a little bit better using this week’s topic)

Have Leader read the scripture.  Choose up teams using the playground method to play Bible Trivia.  Take turns with only one person per team answering per turn.  If person answers incorrectly, the question goes to the other team.  Losing team has to bow to winning team.

1.      Who did God promise many descendants?

2.      Where did Jacob and his sons live?

3.      Who was Moses’ brother?

4.      Who died at the Red Sea?

5.      Who was the king of Moab?

6.      Who fought the battle at Jericho?

7.      What did God send ahead of them?

8.      What are they to throw away?

Worship: (Optional for communities who have the time and talent)

“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” - You Tube link on Facebook

Scripture: (Read the word together – use different readers, different versions, just read it)

Joshua 24:1-15

Lesson: (Delve deeper into the Word and into the sermon using open-ended questions)

How have you benefited from the work of others?

How does your group support each other?

How can your group support those outside your group?

Make a list of potential service projects and pick a date to do one project.

Share something God has done for you in the past.

What do you expect from God in the future?

What “gods” do you need to throw away?

Prayer: (Share each other’s burdens, become a community of believers)
