POWER FOR LIVING: Living in Honesty

The following questions are to be used as a study aid for the sermon preached by Pastor Tommy Dove at the Grace Place on Sunday, June 23, 2013. To get the most from these questions, go to https://soundcloud.com/#graceplacehermitage and listen to the service first.

These questions can be used in your private Bible study during the week or as a basis for a small group study. For more information on hosting or leading a small group study, click on "GP Small Groups" under "GP Ministries" at www.graceplace.us.

Fellowship: (Break bread with your community, share life from last week, announcements for next week)

Icebreaker: (Get to know your fellow believers a little bit better using this week’s topic)

Do you have an unnatural fear of something?  What?

What is your biggest fear?

How do you overcome your fear?

Worship: (Optional for communities who have the time and talent)

Take last week’s worship song,Holiness”, and change the word to “honesty.”

Honesty, honesty is what I long for

Honesty is what I need

Honesty, honesty is what You want for me.

So, take my heart and form it,

Take my mind, transform it,

Take my will, conform it,

To Yours, to Yours, oh Lord.

Scripture: (Read the word together – use different readers, different versions, just read it)
Acts 5:1-11

Lesson: (Delve deeper into the Word and into the sermon using open-ended questions)

Why did Ananias and Sapphira desire to bring the money to the apostles?

What did they think they would gain by not telling the truth?

How would you feel if you were one of the other followers?

Why does it matter if we are not completely honest if no one knows?

How is honesty perceived today?

Why is lying so common in today’s society?

How can we make a difference in our family?  Our community?  Our world?

Prayer: (Share each other’s burdens, become a community of believers)
