Fellowship:

Icebreaker:

Where were you during the Nashville flood of 2010?

What preparations did you make prior to the flood?  During it?  After it?

How have you changed your home due to that flood?

Where is your safe place during a storm?

Worship: (Optional for communities who have the time and talent)

“Praise you in this storm” by Casting Crowns (Find You Tube link)

OK, I know you want to sing “The wise man built his house upon the rock” along with the hand gestures!

Scripture:

Luke 6:46-49

Lesson:

What a difference a week can make!  Monday an F-5 tornado hit Moore, Oklahoma, where Tracy and Amanda Wilkins live.  We are so thankful for their protection during the storm.  Others lost their homes.  Some lost their lives.  That town had been through storms before so they knew how to prepare.   They heeded the warning and their storm shelters saved lives.  Having a safe house can save your life.

Why do we not heed Jesus’ warnings?

What is necessary to create a solid foundation (or storm shelter)?

Why is the depth so important?

What is the risk of not being prepared for life’s storms?

Jesus prayed all night and the next day Power came from Him!  Ask someone to read Luke 6:12, 19.

If you feel comfortable, share about a personal storm you have weathered with Jesus’ help.

How deep are you willing to dig in order to prepare your safe house?

Prayer:

I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS: Tough Love

Icebreaker: What is your favorite Christmas movie? What is your favorite Christmas movie quote? Overview: In the Christmas classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” angel Clarence Odbody is forced to lovingly deliver some tough love when George wishes he had never been born. Clarence grants his wish lamenting that there must be an easier way to get his wings. After George has a frightening experience of what life would have been like had he never been born, Clarence says, “ Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?” In the end, George realizes how wonderful his life truly is despite its difficulties. Truth without love is brutality, and love without truth is hypocrisy.   -- Warren W. Wiersbe God loved us so much that He sent His Son as the Baby Jesus to redeem us. He has placed preachers, teachers and a church in our lives to give us direction so we can mature in our faith. He disciplines us wi...
