A FRIEND LOVES AT ALL TIMES: Jesus, Friend of Sinners

The following questions are to be used as a study aid for the sermon preached by Pastor Tommy Dove at the Grace Place on Sunday, July 14, 2013. To get the most from these questions, go to https://soundcloud.com/#graceplacehermitage and listen to the service first.

These questions can be used in your private Bible study during the week or as the topic for a small group study. For more information on hosting or leading a small group study, click on "GP Small Groups" under "GP Ministries" at www.graceplace.us.

Fellowship: (Break bread with your community, share life from last week, announcements for next week)

Icebreaker: (Get to know your fellow believers a little bit better using this week’s topic)
Do you have a famous relative?  Who?  Why?
What is your relationship with your extended family?
Who was/is your closest cousin?

Worship: (Optional for communities who have the time and talent)
“Jesus, Friend of Sinners” by Casting Crowns (Find YouTube version on Facebook page)

Scripture: (Read the word together – use different readers, different versions, just read it)
Matthew 11:7-29

Lesson: (Delve deeper into the Word and into the sermon using open-ended questions)
John, the Baptist, was Jesus’ cousin.  We can feel Jesus’ love and concern for John in His words.  We don’t know if John and Jesus were friends as well as cousins but they had great mutual respect for each other.  They were both misunderstood and falsely accused by their critics.

When have you felt misunderstood or unappreciated?
How do you feel when unjustly accused of something?
How did Jesus feel when He was called “friend of sinners?”
Why was Jesus so angry at the unrepentant cities?
Who did accept Jesus message though?
How does the world wear you down?
What burden do you carry?

Prayer: (Share each other’s burdens, become a community of believers)
Share your burden with your friends.
