BREAKING THE SILENCE: Blind Eyes and Deaf Ears

The following questions are to be used as a study aid for the sermon preached by Pastor Tommy Dove at the Grace Place on Sunday, October 27, 2013. To get the most from these questions, go to https://soundcloud.com/#graceplacehermitage and listen to the service first.

These questions can be used in your private Bible study during the week or as the topic for a small group study. For more information on hosting or leading a small group study, click on "GP Small Groups" under "GP Ministries" at www.graceplace.us.

Fellowship: (Break bread with your community, share life from last week, announcements for next week)

Icebreaker: (Get to know your fellow believers a little bit better using this week’s topic)
What is your favorite motivator?  (Money, fame, satisfaction, etc.)
Who is the best motivator you have every known?

Worship: (Optional for communities who have the time and talent)
“Open the Eyes of My Heart”  Michael W. Smith (Find on YouTube)

Scripture: (Read the word together – use different readers, different versions, just read it)

Hebrews 3:1-19

Lesson: (Delve deeper into the Word and into the sermon using open-ended questions)
Have you ever played “Blind man’s buff (or bluff)?  Blind man's buff is played in a spacious area, such as outdoors or in a large room, in which one player, designated as "It", is blindfolded and gropes around attempting to touch the other players without being able to see them, while the other players scatter and try to avoid the person who is "it", hiding in plain sight and sometimes teasing them to make them change direction.  Blind man's buff is ideally played in an area free of dangerous obstructions so that the "It" player will not suffer injury from tripping over or hitting something.  Does life ever seem like a game of blind man’s buff?  Why can’t the other player’s shout out words of encouragement to help us?

Why do some people not like to be lead?
What was the problem with the Israelites?
How can people who don’t want to follow be motivated?
When have you needed encouragement to stay on track?
Whose voice do you listen to for guidance?
Who needs your encouragement right now?

Prayer: (Share each other’s burdens, become a community of believers)

Pray for new community groups that will be forming, their leaders and hosts.
