The Impact of the Past - Faithful Founders

The following questions are to be used as a study aid for the sermon preached by Pastor Tommy Dove at the Grace Place on Sunday, January 5, 2014. To get the most from these questions, go to https://soundcloud.com/#graceplacehermitage and listen to the service first.

These questions can be used in your private Bible study during the week or as the topic for a small group study. For more information on hosting or leading a small group study, click on "GP Small Groups" under "GP Ministries" at www.graceplace.us.

Fellowship: (Break bread with your community, share life from last week, announcements for next week)

Icebreaker: (Get to know your fellow believers a little bit better using this week’s topic)
How did you celebrate the New Year?
What is one resolution you have made for 2014?
Did you eat black-eyed peas, greens or pork on New Year’s Day?
How did you spend the first day of the New Year?

Worship: (Optional for communities who have the time and talent)
“The Church’s Jubilee” by C. W. Naylor

Scripture: (Read the word together – use different readers, different versions, just read it)
Proverbs 22:28 “Do not move an ancient boundary stone set up by your ancestors.”

Lesson: (Delve deeper into the Word and into the sermon using open-ended questions)
Ancient stone walls are fascinating structures built by the hands of stonemasons who were half engineers and half artisans.  In our fast-paced, instant society, we are in awe of anything that remains intact for hundreds of years.  Our faith foundation is built on timeless truths.

What is the church?
What does it mean that the church is one body?
What foundation is the church built upon?
Why does it matter that God’s Word is truth?
An old hymn says, “We serve a living Savior; He’s in the world today.”
Why does that set us apart from other religions?
Why are we not waiting for a future kingdom?
How are we different than the world?
What are you doing that has eternal ramifications?

Prayer: (Share each other’s burdens, become a community of believers)
