RENEWING: Don't be Afraid!

The following questions are to be used as a study aid for the sermon preached by Pastor Tommy Dove at the Grace Place on Sunday, June 8, 2014. To get the most from these questions, go to https://soundcloud.com/#graceplacehermitage and listen to the service first.

These questions can be used in your private Bible study during the week or as the topic for a small group study. For more information on hosting or leading a small group study, click on "GP Small Groups" under "GP Ministries" at www.graceplace.us.

Fellowship: (Break bread with your community, share life from last week, announcements for next week)

Icebreaker: (Get to know your fellow believers a little bit better using this week’s topic)
What is your favorite VBS memory?
What is your favorite VBS snack?
What do summer children’s programs mean to you?

Scripture: (Read the word together – use different readers, different versions, just read it
Isaiah 41:10; Proverbs 1:7, 9:10; Psalm 27:1; 2 Timothy 1:7

Lesson: (Delve deeper into the Word and into the sermon using open-ended questions)
VBS finished up Friday night with the theme, “Even when you are afraid, Jesus loves you.”  Fear is a strong emotion that affects people of all ages – young and old.  We all need to be reminded that when we are afraid, Jesus is always there to give us strength.

What promise does God give us about fear?
Why is it so hard to trust God’s promise?
Why is the fear of God healthy?
How can we use fear to make us stronger?
Where does unhealthy fear come from?
What can we use to replace unhealthy fear?
How can we help others who struggle with fear?

Prayer: (Share each other’s burdens, become a community of believers)
