Fellowship: (Break bread with your community, share life from
last week, announcements for next week)
Icebreaker: (Get to know your fellow believers a little bit
better using this week’s topic)
Where have you felt like an outsider?
What made you feel different?
What kind of things separate people?
Scripture: (Read the word together – use different readers,
different versions, just read it
2 Corinthians 6:17, John 17:20-23
Lesson: (Delve deeper into the Word and into the sermon using
open-ended questions)
This week
nine unclaimed containers holding the ashes of victims of the 1978 Jonestown
Massacre were found inside a Delaware funeral home. In 1978, 914 members of a cult led by American
preacher Jim Jones died in a night of mass murder and suicide. Jones ordered his followers to commit suicide
by drinking a cyanide-laced, grape-flavored punch. Those who did not drink the Kool-Aid were shot
by guards loyal to the cult leader.
How can being a “come outer” be a good thing?
When is separating ourselves from unbelievers a bad thing?
How can being too much like the world be dangerous?
What is our relationship with unbelievers?
What is our responsibility to believers and unbelievers?
How can we exhibit unity with believers?
What does unity show the world?
Prayer: (Share each other’s burdens, become a community of
believers)
