The following questions are to be used as a study aid for the sermon preached by Rev. Tommy Dove at the Grace Place on Sunday, March 15, 2015.  To get the most from these questions go to http://www.graceplace.us and click on “Streaming.”  From there you can watch or listen to the service first.

Icebreaker: (Get to know your fellow believers a little bit better using this week’s topic)
Who do you consider your mentor?  Why?
What do you learn from your mentor?
Who considers you their mentor?  Why?

Scripture: (Read the word together – use different readers, different versions, just read it)
John 3:1-21  (Maybe repeat John 3:16 together as a group.)

Lesson: (Delve deeper into the Word and into the sermon using open-ended questions)
We all need the advice of older, more experienced people in our lives.   Nicodemus was a wise man in a position where people asked for his advice.  In this passage, Nicodemus went to Jesus for advice.  He was wise enough to know something was missing in his life and where to go to find it.

Who did Jesus come to save?
What was different about Jesus’ message of inclusiveness?
Why was Jesus’ message difficult for Nicodemus to understand?
What does grace and mercy mean to you?
What did God sacrifice so that we could have eternal life?
What is our response to God’s love for us? 
How do we share this message to others?

Prayer:  (Share each other’s burdens, become a community of believers)

As we countdown to Easter, begin to pray for specific people who need to find Jesus.

STEPS OF FAITH

Only the passage of time can judge how far we have travelled and how well we have followed the Lord in steps of faith. Time goes quickly and slowly simultaneously. We encounter tremendous obstacles along the way such as leaders with moral failings and a mountain of debt and the obstacles seems unsurmountable; yet, we put one step in front of the other placing our faith in God. “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.” ― Corrie ten Boom   It takes courage and steadfastness to keep going.
