Fellowship: (Break bread with your community, share life from
last week, announcements for next week)
Icebreaker: (Get to know your fellow believers a little bit
better using this week’s topic)
What does Memorial Day mean to you?
What are your plans for the day?
Scripture: (Read the word together – use different readers,
different versions, just read it)
James 3:1-18
Lesson: (Delve deeper into the Word and into the sermon using
open-ended questions)
Words can hurt
especially when they are spoken in the context of a family. We must learn to guard the thoughts that
produce our words. But a lack of words
is a problem as well. Don’t withhold
words of kindness, love or praise. They
can produce a harvest of righteousness!
Why are we warned not to think we are perfect?
Why is saying the wrong thing wrong?
What two opposite things come from our mouths? (vs 10)
How can we make our words match our love of God?
Why is saying the right thing right?
How can words build a person up? Tear them down?
When is using the right words hard for you?
Who needs to hear words of blessing from you?
Prayer: (Share
each other’s burdens, become a community of believers)
