Fellowship: (Break bread with your community, share life from
last week, announcements for next week)
Icebreaker: (Get to know your fellow believers a little bit better
using this week’s topic)
What do people say are your talents?
How do you use these talents?
What is your life’s purpose statement?
Scripture: (Read the word together – use different readers,
different versions, just read it)
Isaiah 61:1-3
Lesson: (Delve deeper into the Word and into the sermon using
open-ended questions)
As history goes,
our country’s history with slavery was not so long ago. Most of us have ancestors who were involved
in some way in that horrible past. It is
grievous to think that people are still captive to slavery in its many
forms. God came to set the captives
free!
Name some forms of slavery.
How does the forgiveness of sin free someone?
What kinds of situations enslave people today?
Compare the two people described in verse 3. (Beauty vs ashes, etc.)
What is the natural expression of freedom?
How can the local church be involved?
What can your group do to combat slavery?
How can you comfort hurting people?
Prayer: (Share
each other’s burdens, become a community of believers)
