Fellowship:
Icebreaker:
How do you feel about “selfies?”
What do you see when you look in the mirror?
What would you like to change about yourself?
Scripture:
Romans 7:4-6, 14-25; 8:1-14
Lesson:
Reading the Bible
through this year reminds us of the constant struggle the Israelites had with
obedience. Even though they had God’s
law, they were still slaves to their sinful nature. Thanks be to God, we have the Spirit of
Christ living in us that sets us free from the law of sin and death!
What was God’s law before Jesus came?
Why was it so hard to be obedient to God’s law?
How did Jesus’ death change that? (Re-read Romans 8:1-4)
Why did the people of Jesus’ time have a hard time
understanding this new “law?”
Who is in control of our actions now?
How does the Spirit living in you change you?
What is our obligation as a result of the freedom from
self?
How can we help others to find this freedom?
