Icebreaker: (Ask everyone to share this week)
What is your favorite memory from summer 2015?
What makes it special?
Scripture:
Romans 8:1-14
Lesson:
Our modern society is
driven by power, primarily electrical power.
Electrical outlets can now be found anywhere people gather – coffee shops,
waiting rooms, airplanes and even cars.
Without power to run our devices, our lives can’t function. As a Christian we don’t have to hunt for an
outlet to access THE POWER of the Holy Spirit, it is living in us.
Why was the concept of freedom from sin so new to the Romans?
What power did the Romans have to set them free from sin?
How does the sinful nature control someone?
How does living by the Spirit change a life?
In what ways can we avoid sinful things?
How can we help each other focus on good things?
Compare today’s Americans to the Romans of Paul’s day.
How can we help people know the Power is available to them?
