Icebreaker:
Have you ever seen a celebrity?  Who?
Have you ever been mistaken for a celebrity?  Who?
Have you ever talked with someone and imagined what they looked like?
If you ever met them, did they look like you imagined?

Scripture:
Matthew 16:13-20

Lesson:
Do you ever think about what it would have been like to have known Jesus as a physical man?  Was He the best friend ever?  Did He give big, bear hugs?  Did He have large, brown eyes, soft, curly, dark hair and a warm laugh?  Could you sit and listen to Him forever?  Some day we will know the answer to these questions.  Until then, it is important that we know His true identity as God’s Son and share that Good News with others.

What was important thing number one from last week?
Reread from last week’s passage 1 John 4:15-16.
Read this week’s passage in Matthew 16:13-20.
Why did it matter who people thought Jesus was?
Why does it matter who we think Jesus is?
Who else in the Bible identified Jesus as God’s Son?
Read Matthew 14:33, John 1:49, John 11.27, Mark 15:39.
Why did Jesus tell the disciples not to say He was the Christ?
Why do we not tell people that Jesus is the Christ?
What did Jesus mean when He said He was building on Peter’s “rock?”
How does our faith in Jesus as God’s son build on that foundation?

I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS: Tough Love

Icebreaker: What is your favorite Christmas movie? What is your favorite Christmas movie quote? Overview: In the Christmas classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” angel Clarence Odbody is forced to lovingly deliver some tough love when George wishes he had never been born. Clarence grants his wish lamenting that there must be an easier way to get his wings. After George has a frightening experience of what life would have been like had he never been born, Clarence says, “ Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?” In the end, George realizes how wonderful his life truly is despite its difficulties. Truth without love is brutality, and love without truth is hypocrisy.   -- Warren W. Wiersbe God loved us so much that He sent His Son as the Baby Jesus to redeem us. He has placed preachers, teachers and a church in our lives to give us direction so we can mature in our faith. He disciplines us wi...
