Fellowship:

Icebreaker:
Who was the ultimate authority in your home growing up?  Mom?  Dad?  Grandma?
How did your ultimate authority always seem to know how things would turn out?
How do you feel about being under someone’s authority now?

Scripture:
2 Timothy 3:16-17

Lesson:
My husband has the nickname of “Mr. Perfect.”  No one knows better than I do that the nickname is a long way from being true although he is right 95% of the time.  When looking for an Ultimate Authority in this world, don’t count on a perfect human.  Depend on the inerrancy and accuracy of God’s Word.

What is a “standard?”  (Look it up definition prior to group or have someone look it up on their mobile device during group.)
What forms of standards are used in the world today?
Why is the Bible an acceptable standard for Christians?
What does it mean to be inerrant?  Infallible?  (More good words to look up.)
Why does it matter that the Bible is inerrant and infallible?
Why is God our Ultimate Authority?
How does God always know what is best for us?

I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS: Tough Love

Icebreaker: What is your favorite Christmas movie? What is your favorite Christmas movie quote? Overview: In the Christmas classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” angel Clarence Odbody is forced to lovingly deliver some tough love when George wishes he had never been born. Clarence grants his wish lamenting that there must be an easier way to get his wings. After George has a frightening experience of what life would have been like had he never been born, Clarence says, “ Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?” In the end, George realizes how wonderful his life truly is despite its difficulties. Truth without love is brutality, and love without truth is hypocrisy.   -- Warren W. Wiersbe God loved us so much that He sent His Son as the Baby Jesus to redeem us. He has placed preachers, teachers and a church in our lives to give us direction so we can mature in our faith. He disciplines us wi...
