Fellowship:
Icebreaker:
What was your favorite toy as a child?
Why was it so special to you?
How did you feel about sharing it?
Scripture:
1 Samuel 1: 1-28
Lesson:
When we love something, we want
to hold on to it tightly like a child clinging to a precious toy. In this week’s scripture story, Hannah loved
Samuel so much; yet, she gave him away to serve in the temple. God so loved the world that He gave us His
Only, Beloved Son – the heir of Heaven itself.
What has love got to do with real Christianity? Everything.
What stands out to you in Hannah’s story?
How could a mother give up her child?
What part does her love play in her sacrifice?
Why did God give up His son knowing what would happen to Him?
What does God require of us in return? Matthew 10: 37-39, John 14:21-23
How does God expect us to treat others? John 15:12-13, Luke 6:27-36
What specific ways can we love others sacrificially?
What does compassionate love for others look like?
You may want to discuss specific
ways your group can show real Christian love to someone in your community.
