WHAT IS REAL CHRISTIANITY? Why do I need to go to Church?

The following questions are to be used as a study aid for the sermon preached by Pastor Tommy Dove at the Grace Place on Sunday, May 22, 2016.  To get the most from these questions, go to http://www.nashvillechurch.com and click on “Media” to either stream the current service or listen to a previous sermon.

These questions can be used in your private Bible study during the week or as the topic for a small group study.  For more information on participating in a small group study, click on "Life Groups" at the top of www.nashvillechurch.com.

Fellowship:
For this week’s session, everyone must call each other “Brother ____” or “Sister ____” before addressing them.  No one can be addressed without this intro.  Anyone who forgets to address the person that way before speaking to them must pay a penalty.  (Penalty could be a quarter to be donated to the Youth or some other cause.)

Icebreaker:
Tell about your family – siblings, only child, etc.
Did you ever have someone as close as a sibling?  Who?  Why?
What is so special about family?

Scripture:
Hebrews 10:19-25

Lesson:
The early church cherished time with other believers.  We should cherish it, too.  Songwriters, Bill and Gloria Gaither, said it perfectly “I’m so glad I’m a part of the Family of God. . .You’ll notice we say brother and sister ‘round here, it’s because we’re a family and these folks are so dear.”  Real Christians go to church!

How does your church feel like family?
If not, what would make it feel more like family?
Why does having a church family matter?
Why did it matter to the early church?
How does do we motivate one another?
How does meeting in small groups build family?
Why do we need a habit of going to church?

I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS: Tough Love

Icebreaker: What is your favorite Christmas movie? What is your favorite Christmas movie quote? Overview: In the Christmas classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” angel Clarence Odbody is forced to lovingly deliver some tough love when George wishes he had never been born. Clarence grants his wish lamenting that there must be an easier way to get his wings. After George has a frightening experience of what life would have been like had he never been born, Clarence says, “ Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?” In the end, George realizes how wonderful his life truly is despite its difficulties. Truth without love is brutality, and love without truth is hypocrisy.   -- Warren W. Wiersbe God loved us so much that He sent His Son as the Baby Jesus to redeem us. He has placed preachers, teachers and a church in our lives to give us direction so we can mature in our faith. He disciplines us wi...
