Fellowship:
Icebreaker:
What does back to school mean to you?
Homework and bedtimes?
Vacation and fall sports?
How did you feel about back to school as a child?
Scripture:
Matthew 5:7 and 9, 1 Corinthians
13:4-7
Lesson:
In the 1980’s sitcom Full
House (and now Fuller House), Uncle Jesse exclaims, “Have mercy!” when
the children get into crazy predicaments.
We have all had those moments of exasperation when someone needed an
extra dose of mercy. When the person is
a child, it can be funny – later. When
the offender is an adult, we struggle with extending mercy to someone whom we
deem unworthy of mercy. Yet, Jesus said
it first, “Have mercy.”
How is mercy and love intertwined?
How can we show mercy to someone we don’t love?
To whom is it easier to show mercy – someone you know or don’t
know?
How is keeping score of wrongs contrary to showing mercy?
What is the difference between mercy and forgiveness?
To whom do you need to extend mercy right now?
Who needs your forgiveness?
Who needs to extend you mercy?
Who needs to forgive you?
