Fellowship:

Icebreaker:

How easily do you get embarrassed?
Do you consider yourself a social butterfly or a wallflower?
Where do you feel most uncomfortable?  Most comfortable?

Scripture:

Luke 9:23-26, Hebrews 2:11, Romans 1:16

Lesson:
Have you ever fallen down only to jump up quickly for fear someone saw you?  We all have.  We are ashamed to show any weakness or failure because others may laugh or think less of us.  My sister fell and broke her leg this week but refused to call 9-1-1.  When her husband drove home and realized the pain she was suffering, he called for the ambulance.  Being ashamed of our failures can lead to a hardened heart that resists admitting our need for a Savior.  Do not be ashamed!

Why was Jesus being so tough on the disciples?
What happened just prior to Luke 9:23-26?
What was Jesus’ mission here on Earth?
How do we share in Jesus’ mission?
Why is Jesus being so hard on us?
How do we act when we are not ashamed of the Gospel?
What power does the Gospel possess?
How can we practice courage?

I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS: Tough Love

Icebreaker: What is your favorite Christmas movie? What is your favorite Christmas movie quote? Overview: In the Christmas classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” angel Clarence Odbody is forced to lovingly deliver some tough love when George wishes he had never been born. Clarence grants his wish lamenting that there must be an easier way to get his wings. After George has a frightening experience of what life would have been like had he never been born, Clarence says, “ Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?” In the end, George realizes how wonderful his life truly is despite its difficulties. Truth without love is brutality, and love without truth is hypocrisy.   -- Warren W. Wiersbe God loved us so much that He sent His Son as the Baby Jesus to redeem us. He has placed preachers, teachers and a church in our lives to give us direction so we can mature in our faith. He disciplines us wi...
