Weekly Overview: (skip if video is used)
The Apostle Peter was a person whose self-esteem was broken.  His story is so powerful that it is recorded in all four gospels.  There is no doubt that Peter had a healthy opinion of himself from the beginning.  Peter had walked on water.  Peter declared, “You are the Christ!”  He had boasted to Jesus, “I am ready to die for you!”  But a few hours after Jesus’ betrayal and arrest, Peter cursed and denied he even knew Jesus.  Broken self-esteem is hearing that cock crow for the third time.  It is seeing the hurt in Jesus’ eyes.  Peter had broken his own heart and he wept bitterly.

Jesus did not leave Peter in his broken despair.  Three times Jesus asked him, “Do you love me?”  When Peter assured Jesus that he did, Jesus gave him a purpose – “Feed My sheep.”  We, too, can find purpose after brokenness.
