HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? Our Salvation

The following questions can be used as a weekly recap in a small group setting or as a personal study aid for the sermon preached by Senior Pastor, Tommy Dove, at the Grace Place on Sunday, April 2, 2017.  Past sermons are available offline at www.nashvillechurch.com.  Click on “Media” to view the video.  For more information on participating in a Life Group study, contact Pastor Jon Green.

OUR SALVATION

Weekly Warm-up:
How do you feel about yard sales?
What is the best bargain you have ever found?
Do you prefer to pay for quality or quantity?

Weekly Overview:
In the world of Medicare, recipients of government health insurance are called “beneficiaries.”  Seems a little odd.  Normally, a beneficiary is someone who receives life insurance benefits after someone has died.  In both examples, a person has paid an amount of money, sometimes over many years, so that those benefits are available either for themselves or for a loved one.  Things that we deem valuable are rarely free.  Someone has paid a price.

Jesus paid a high cost for our salvation in one lump sum payment so that we can be the beneficiaries of an eternity of benefits.  Before His sacrifice, we were doomed but now we have been set free from the penalty of our sin.

Weekly Discussion Questions:
Read Hebrews 9:11-15

What did the early form of sacrifice cost the beneficiary?
Why did that not totally free him/her from the guilt of sin?
What did Jesus’ sacrifice cost Him?  Cost God?
Why was the sacrifice Jesus made the perfect sacrifice?
How did that sacrifice cover us once and for all?
What benefits did we receive by the cost Jesus paid?
How can we “pay it forward” to benefit others?

Group Prayer:
Pray a prayer of thanksgiving for the gift of salvation.
Pray for lost friends and family.

Pray for Easter church service and activities.

I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS: Tough Love

Icebreaker: What is your favorite Christmas movie? What is your favorite Christmas movie quote? Overview: In the Christmas classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” angel Clarence Odbody is forced to lovingly deliver some tough love when George wishes he had never been born. Clarence grants his wish lamenting that there must be an easier way to get his wings. After George has a frightening experience of what life would have been like had he never been born, Clarence says, “ Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?” In the end, George realizes how wonderful his life truly is despite its difficulties. Truth without love is brutality, and love without truth is hypocrisy.   -- Warren W. Wiersbe God loved us so much that He sent His Son as the Baby Jesus to redeem us. He has placed preachers, teachers and a church in our lives to give us direction so we can mature in our faith. He disciplines us wi...
