Psalm 23: He Restores My Soul

The following questions can be used as a weekly recap in a small group setting or as a personal study aid for the sermon preached by Interim Pastor, Norm Patton, at the Grace Place on Sunday, May 21, 2017.  Past sermons are available offline at www.nashvillechurch.com.  Click on “Media” to view the video.  For more information on participating in a Life Group study, stop by the Welcome Center.

Weekly Warm-up:

What is your biggest pet peeve?
What zips your strength the most – mental or physical?

Weekly Overview:
Did your mother ever tell you that you needed a nap because you were cranky?  Perhaps you can tell when your child needs to eat or rest by their actions.  We don’t operate at our optimal best when we are tired, hungry or stressed out.  Often, we would get along better with family, friends or co-workers if we would stop talking, breath a prayer, eat a Snickers bar*, drink a glass of water and go take a nap!  The Good Shepherd knows His sheep.  He knows our souls need restoration.

*Leader, you may want to bring each person a snack sized Snickers bar to help them remember everyone needs restoration.

Weekly Discussion Questions:
Recite Psalm 23 as a group.  (How’s your memorization coming along?)

Read Psalm 51

2.       ______________ (Psalm 51:1-2)
3.       ______________ (Psalm 51:7, 10)

I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS: Tough Love

Icebreaker: What is your favorite Christmas movie? What is your favorite Christmas movie quote? Overview: In the Christmas classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” angel Clarence Odbody is forced to lovingly deliver some tough love when George wishes he had never been born. Clarence grants his wish lamenting that there must be an easier way to get his wings. After George has a frightening experience of what life would have been like had he never been born, Clarence says, “ Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?” In the end, George realizes how wonderful his life truly is despite its difficulties. Truth without love is brutality, and love without truth is hypocrisy.   -- Warren W. Wiersbe God loved us so much that He sent His Son as the Baby Jesus to redeem us. He has placed preachers, teachers and a church in our lives to give us direction so we can mature in our faith. He disciplines us wi...
